ReChapter

1. About These Terms
These Terms and Conditions ('Terms') govern your use of the ReChapter website (www.rechapter.com.au) established by the company RECHAPTER PTY LTD, which operates under the commercial name Rechapter, registered in the KEMPS CREEK NSW 2178 office under number 692 706 611. By browsing our website or placing an order, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
ReChapter is an Australian online retailer specialising in pre-owned books. All stock is held physically in our warehouse and has been individually inspected before listing. Please read these Terms carefully before completing a purchase.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia and, where applicable, the state or territory in which you reside.
2. Eligibility
By placing an order with ReChapter, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age, or that you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. You also confirm that you are purchasing for personal, domestic or household use, or for legitimate business purposes.
3. Our Products — Pre-Owned Books
3.1 Second-Hand Stock
All books sold by ReChapter are pre-owned ('used') unless explicitly stated as 'new'. Our inventory is sourced from various channels and every item is individually checked by our team before being listed for sale.
3.2 Condition Grading
Each book is assigned one of the following condition grades at the time of inspection:
• Like New — minimal signs of use; no markings, damage or significant wear
• Very Good — light wear consistent with careful use; may have minor scuffs or creasing on cover
• Good — normal wear; may include previous owner's name, minor annotations, or shelf wear
• Acceptable — readable copy with noticeable wear; may contain highlighting, stamps or stickers
Condition descriptions and photographs are provided on the product listing page. While we make every effort to accurately represent each item, minor variations between the description and the physical copy may occur due to the nature of second-hand goods.
3.3 Pre-Verified Stock
Every book in our inventory has been physically verified by the ReChapter team prior to listing. This verification process checks that:
• The item corresponds to the listed ISBN and edition
• All pages are present and legible
• The item does not contain loose pages, water damage, or missing covers
• The condition grade assigned is accurate at the time of inspection
Note: Books are natural, organic products. Minor yellowing, ageing or a distinctive 'book smell' are inherent characteristics of pre-owned stock and do not constitute defects.
4. Pricing and Payment
All prices are displayed in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include Goods and Services Tax (GST) where applicable. ReChapter reserves the right to change prices at any time without prior notice. The price applicable to your order is the price displayed at the time you complete your purchase.
We accept payment via the methods displayed at checkout, which may include credit/debit card, PayPal, Afterpay and other providers. Payment is processed at the time of order placement. We do not store your full payment card details — all payment data is handled by our secure, PCI-DSS compliant payment processors.
In the event of a pricing error on our website, we reserve the right to cancel or adjust affected orders and will notify you promptly.
5. Orders and Contract Formation
Placing an order constitutes an offer to purchase the relevant item(s). A binding contract is formed only when we send you an order confirmation email confirming that your order has been accepted and dispatched.
We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order at our discretion, including (but not limited to) where:
• A listed item has been found to be damaged or lost prior to dispatch
• A pricing or description error has occurred
• We suspect fraudulent activity
Because our stock is pre-owned and held in finite quantity (typically one copy per listing), we are unable to guarantee availability at the time of purchase. In the rare event that an item is unavailable after your order is confirmed, we will offer you a full refund or, where possible, a suitable alternative.
6. Shipping and Delivery
6.1 Dispatch
Orders are dispatched within the timeframe specified on the product page or at checkout, typically within 1 to 3 business days of order confirmation. Dispatch times may be extended during sale periods or public holidays.
6.2 Delivery
We deliver to addresses within Australia and to selected international destinations. Estimated delivery times are provided at checkout and are indicative only — we are not responsible for delays caused by Australia Post, third-party couriers, customs, or circumstances beyond our control.
6.3 Shipping Costs
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on order weight, dimensions and destination. Free shipping thresholds or promotions, where applicable, will be displayed on the website.
6.4 Risk of Loss
Risk of loss or damage to goods passes to you upon delivery to the address you nominated at checkout. We recommend providing a secure delivery address. If you choose to have your order left unattended ('authority to leave'), you accept the associated risk.
7. Returns, Refunds and Exchanges
7.1 Australian Consumer Law
Our returns policy operates in addition to, and does not limit, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)). Under the ACL, you are entitled to a remedy if a product has a major failure, is not of acceptable quality, does not match its description, or is not fit for its disclosed purpose.
7.2 Change of Mind
We do not offer refunds or exchanges for change of mind. As our stock consists of individually inspected second-hand items, we encourage you to review the product listing, condition grade and photographs carefully before purchasing.
7.3 Incorrect or Significantly Misdescribed Item
If you receive an item that is significantly different from its listing (e.g. wrong title, wrong edition, or condition substantially worse than described), please contact us at returns@rechapter.com.au within 14 days of delivery. We will arrange a free return and provide a full refund or replacement at our discretion.
7.4 Damaged in Transit
If your order arrives damaged in transit, please retain all packaging and contact us within 7 days of receipt with photographs of the damage. We will assess the claim and arrange a remedy in accordance with your ACL rights.
7.5 How to Lodge a Return
To initiate a return, please email returns@rechapter.com.au with your order number, a description of the issue, and supporting photographs where relevant. Do not return items without prior authorisation — unauthorised returns may not be accepted.
8. Australian Consumer Guarantees
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
9. Intellectual Property
All content on the ReChapter website — including text, images, logos, graphics and design — is owned by or licensed to ReChapter and is protected by Australian and international copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify or use any content from this website without our prior written consent.
Third-party trademarks, book covers and publisher materials are the property of their respective owners and are reproduced on our website solely for identification purposes.
10. Website Use and Prohibited Conduct

• Attempting to gain unauthorised access to our systems or customer data
• Submitting false, misleading or fraudulent orders or information

• Interfering with the proper functioning of the website
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ReChapter's liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of our website is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant order.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, including loss of data, loss of profits or business interruption, arising from your use of our website or products, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such loss.
This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable law.
12. Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. The collection, use and disclosure of your personal information is governed by our Privacy Notice, which is available on our website and forms part of these Terms. By using our website and placing an order, you consent to the practices described in our Privacy Notice.
13. Third-Party Links and Services
Our website may contain links to third-party websites or services (including Shopify, payment processors and social media platforms). These links are provided for your convenience only. ReChapter does not endorse and is not responsible for the content, privacy practices or terms of any third-party website.
14. Amendments to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised 'Last updated' date and will take effect immediately upon posting. Your continued use of our website after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia. You agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Australian courts in connection with any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of our website.
In the event of a dispute, we encourage you to contact us in the first instance at hello@rechapter.com.au to seek an informal resolution. If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, either party may refer the matter to mediation or seek resolution through the relevant consumer protection authority in your state or territory.
